AIM-9X-2 Block II SIDEWINDER Missiles for Royal Malaysia Air Force?

Base on DSCA (Defense Security Cooperation Agency) report recently, DSCA notified American Congress of possible Foreign Military Sale to the government of Malaysia for AIM-9-X-2 Sidewinder Block II All-Up-Round missiles and associated equipment.

The report said the government of Malaysia has requested a possible sale of 20 AIM-9X-2 Sidewinder Block II All-Up-Round missiles & associated equipment, parts, training & logistic support.

The prime contractor will be Raytheon Missile Systems Company in Tucson, Arizona. The AIM-9X-2 Sidewinder Block II missile is the latest series of the famous AIM-9 Sidewinder Short Range Air-Air Missile. It can use on F-16, F-15, F/A-18 and others type aircraft.

For Malaysia case, AIM-9X-2 Block II Sidewinder will suit with F/A-18D Hornet for Short Range Air-Air Missile. It will complement with AIM-120C AMRAAM for medium range air-air missile that was purchase for F/A-18D Hornet previously.
